Information for International Students

The following information is for international students interested in joining the lab as a student or postdoc. Note that all of the information below is unofficial -- please refer to the official web pages for the most up-to-date, accurate information.

• Postdocs

  There are postdoc programs administered by the JSPS. See here.

• JSPS Programs for Visiting Graduate Students: (short-term (several months) visiting programs graduate students) are available.

• Graduate studies:
  It is possible to join the lab for MS or PhD studies through one of the following two departments. Note that both departments offer both Spring and Fall admissions. Masters program applicants who do not speak Japanese should apply to GPES and not GSS. Doctoral program applicants can appy to either department regardless of Japanese language ability.
  • The Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences (GPES) is a new program at the U. of Tokyo conducted entirely in English. All classes will be taught in English, and Japanese language skills are not required. Both a Masters and Doctoral studies are offered.
  • The Department of General Systems Studies has Masters and Doctoral programs.
    • Dept of GSS Masters program: Currently, Japanese language skills are necessary for the Dept. of GSS Masters program. See the admissions information for the GSS department.

    • Dept of GSS Doctoral program: Japanese language skills are not a prerequisite for application to the Dept of GSS Doctoral program. Please contact me directly regarding the doctoral program.
      International students interested in applying directly to the doctoral program at the Dept. of General Systems Studies are strongly recommended to first apply for a MEXT postgraduate research scholarship (application for these scholarships is administered by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General in the applicant's country -- please contact your local Japanese embassy/consulate for information) .

• Foreign Undergraduate Students from other universities seeking Intenships/Research Experiences:
  Due to various constraints, the lab currently can not host undergraduate visitors/interns from other universities. Please apply to one of the graduate programs listed above after you become eligible.

• Todai undergraduate students (including PEAK):
